With concrete collaboration and support of Forest Department, UN-REDD PMU team organized 6th programme executive board meeting at Parkroyal Hotel, Yangon. The meeting was aimed to discuss 2019 Master Work Plan of UN-REDD programme Myanmar and to review the activities and progress of National Redd+ Taskforce.
At opening of the meeting, Dr. Nyi Nyi Kyaw, Director General of Forest Department and Mr. Peter Batchelor, Country Director of UNDP gave opening remarks respectively. Nearly 20 participants attended 6th Programme Executive Board Meeting.
According to meeting section 1, Dr. Thaung Naing Oo, Director of Forest Department and National Programme Director of UN-REDD Myanmar discussed the topic of “State of advance UN-REDD Programme in Myanmar, development towards major targets for 2018”. And then, Daw Khin Hnin Myint, National Programme Coordinator of UN-REDD explained bout the fulfillment of pending actions from the meeting minutes of 5th PEB meeting in July 2018.
Mr. Tim Boyle, Chief Technical Advisor from UN-REDD explained the process of providing a report on the findings of MTR and actions taken and planned to address those findings.
At meeting section 2, Mr. Alexis Corblin, Regional Technical Advisor of UNEP gave explanation on status and plans for SIS and preparations of Myanmar’s initial SOI. After that, Mr. Tim Boyle, CTA of UN-REDD gave details the work with Ethnic Armed Organizations and proposal for “Myanmar Ethnic Group, Forests and Climate Change Week”.
He explained, “As REDD+ needs to engage effectively with ethnic groups, our Programme Management Unit proposes to organize a major event in the half of 2019 designed to provide a forum for open discussion on issues relevant to ethnic groups.”
Mr. Ben Vickers, Regional Technical Advisor of FAO gave presentation on “Moving towards Phase 2/ REDD+ Implementation: UN Agency Initiatives” highlighting the needs for contributing to REDD+ implementation by current and planned UN Agencies’ projects.
At the final section of the meeting, Daw Khin Hnin Myint provided detail explanation on Annual Work Plan 2019 requesting for comments and approvals from PEB members. After that, PEB members decided tentative date and topics for next PEB meeting.
