REDD+ is a mechanism under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change to contribute to mitigation of climate change by providing incentives for developing countries to conserve and sustainably manage their forests. It reflects the role that forests play in stabilising greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere that would prevent dangerous antropogenic interference with the climate system.
REDD+ stands for Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation, and the role of conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of forest carbon stocks in the developing countries.
