In support of Myanmar’s National REDD+ Strategy Development, UN-REDD programme held Ministerial Meeting with MoHA (Ministry of Home Affairs) in Nay Pyi Taw on 22 June 2017. U Tin Myint, Permanent Secretary and 25 senior officials from MoHA attended the meeting.
The objectives of the meeting are – to ensure that key ministries and related departments are aware of the proposed policies and measures for REDD+ discussed so far at the level of the Technical Working Group (Driver and Strategy Group), to review the proposals and contribute to better designing and supporting the proposed Policies and Measures (PaMs).
As a vital part of meeting to strengthen draft National REDD+ Strategy, the discussion with the officials was undertaken, focusing on the key questions addressed; “Are these policies and measures mentioned in the draft REDD+ strategy are sensible?” “Is there a role of MoHA in implementing these policies and measures?” “Which existing programmes of the Ministry are pursuing the same or similar results?” “Is there any lessons learnt from the existing programmes?”
These Ministerial Meetings have been scheduled to organize during the month of June 2017 in collaboration with the key ministries, namely; Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation, Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, Ministry of Electricity and Energy, Ministry of Planning and Finance, Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Border Affairs respectively.
