UN-REDD National Programme’s Private Sector Workshop kicked off in Yangon

To identify and develop an effective role for the private sector in implementation of the National REDD+ Strategy (NRS), including through private-public partnerships, UN-REDD programme held Private Sector Workshop at Park Royal Hotel in Yangon on 7 November.

It complements and strengthens REDD+ national and subnational engagement activities detailed in the overarching NRS engagement plan. (20) representatives from leading private sectors/associations such as Htoo Foundation under Htoo Group, Myanmar Agri Tech under FMI, AYA Bank, KBZ Bank, Myanmar Royal Prestige Co., MLPG, MRPPA and UMFCCI were present and actively participated in the workshop.

The workshop was undertaken in two parts. The morning session focused on raising awareness of REDD+ programme to the participants through holistic presentations.  The afternoon session provided a platform for the participants to express their ideas in groups discussions through three main topics:

  1. Barriers and opportunities to move towards sustainable agricultural commodity supply chains;
  2. Barriers and opportunities to reduce reliance on wood-based energy for domestic and industrial use in rural and urban areas;
  3. Barriers and opportunities to promote corporate social responsibility and corporate philanthropy to support REDD+ in Myanmar;
