Second Meeting of Drafting Group for Myanmar’s Summary of Information on Safeguards

The second meeting of Drafting Group (DG) for Myanmar’s Summary of Information (SOI) on Safeguards was organized at UNDP office Nay Pyi Taw to review the first draft Summary of Information. The meeting was conducted aiming for providing specific information to questions related to members’ areas of expertise and providing feedback on first draft of the Summary. In addition, it was intended to review progress against the SOI workplan and discuss next plans for consultation.

 

At the opening of the meeting, Mr. Timothy Boyle, Chief Technical Advisor of UN-REDD gave welcome message. He said, “The quality of the draft depends on SOI’s drafting members. We now have the draft of Myanmar REDD+ SOI and we still need more information and review process for SOI development. And hope that this second meeting of the SOI Drafting Group will continue to support the preparation of the Summary.”

 

After it, Daw May Nwe Soe, National Consultant who will lead the writing explained objectives of the meeting and recap of the workplan. And then, she also gave explanation on overview of first Draft Summary of Information. In the presentation, she highlighted the key seven principles for clarifying, addressing and respecting the Safeguards. All drafting members gave suggestions and feedbacks on presentation.

 

Ms. Charlotte Hicks, Programme Officer of UN-Environment-WCMC discussed with drafting members about Plans for consultation workshop and ongoing work on safeguards approach. And then, drafting members gave feedbacks and suggestions on draft of SOI.

 

Total 13 drafting members from Department of Ethnic Rights, Union Attorney General Office, Department of Social Welfare, Department of Agriculture, Environmental Conservation Department, POINT and MERN were presented in second Drafting Group meeting.
